Baby Vomiting - How Much is Too Much?
Vomiting1 - most of the time, throwing up is not a cause of concern and every baby will get sick at some time or other. However, contact your health care provider if the vomiting is persistent and your baby is acting lethargic, has lost his appetite, or has a fever or rash.
Gastroenteritis, also known as the stomach flu, is often the cause of vomiting in babies and it may also cause diarrhea. Help a sick baby feel better by keeping him hydrated with breast milk, formula, water or an oral electrolyte or rehydration solution that your doctor has recommended; stay away from juice at this time. If his stomach is upset, baby may have trouble settling to sleep, which he will do when his stomach empties into the intestines as this will help him feel better and lessen or remove his need to throw up. To help your baby settle to sleep, gently rock him, read stories and/or give him a nighttime feeding if he still has an appetite.
