Why Has My Baby's Appetite Changed?

Babies are constantly changing, and that includes their appetite. Follow your baby's cue. Offer more food when he indicates he is not satisfied and don't insist your infant finishes his food if he is no longer hungry. Adjusting to your baby's appetite means adjusting to your baby's diaper changing schedule as well, since they are directly connected.

Appetite changes are generally not anything to worry about and are a normal part of baby's development. However contact your doctor if:

  • appetite changes are accompanied by signs of illness, such as lethargy
  • your baby seems fine but refuses several meals in a row
Your baby's appetite is influenced by growth spurts, teething, his activity level, temperature and humidity, among other things. Don't worry if your infant is not eating as much as a guideline recommends because it is just that, a guide, and every baby is unique.
