What Are Braxton Hicks Contractions?
Braxton Hicks contractions are uterine contractions that are generally not felt until week 20, although they are more common in your third trimester.1 Not all women experience them and, if they do, the contractions are usually unpredictable and uncomfortable but not painful. Braxton Hicks contractions don’t increase in intensity – growing consistently longer, stronger and more frequent – as true labour contractions do. 2
Changing your position, drinking water, herbal tea or warm milk, relaxation exercises or a warm bath can ease the contractions, unlike true labour contractions that persist regardless.
